Because I Can is a feature-length documentary film produced by our fiscally sponsored project, AwareNow Media, following Allié’s journey with multiple sclerosis as she trains for the Philadelphia Marathon with her lifelong friend, Angie. Along the way, the film highlights the stories of three others with MS—an actress in Los Angeles, an advocate in Michigan, and an artist in Paris—who Allié visits to walk with. Their paths converge at the marathon’s finish line in a powerful finale.

This documentary explores human resilience and the strength of the human spirit, showing that while the focus is on those living with MS, its message resonates with anyone facing adversity. Through their stories, ‘Because I Can’ aims to inspire courage, foster understanding, and motivate action.

The Great Mural Project comprises a group of engaged and connected Saginaw City lovers who believe every great city needs art, music, and cultural events. We enrich our community by transforming eyesores or forgotten spaces with beautiful murals and community art installations. With meetings starting in 2017, the first mural was installed in 2018, and 35 murals have been installed since then. Most recently, GMP installed 15 utility box murals in coordination with the City of Saginaw, spreading art further into Riverfront Saginaw. The ‘Fan the Flame’ Grant will support the installation of two additional utility box murals in Riverfront Saginaw painted by artists that identify as members of the LGBTQ+. The design will include QR codes to the websites of the two primary regional LGBTQ+ support organizations, GLB Pride and PFLAG, offering support and community for individuals and their families.
