The week the stay-at-home order took place, Erik began experiencing the worst “flu” of his life. As a healthy 43-year old, the COVID-19 positive diagnosis presumably didn’t pose much of a threat. But when he found himself struggling to breathe, his doctor urged him to get to the ER. Erik describes the moment he was told he might have to go on a ventilator as “being in a coin-flip.” At that time, it was about a 50% chance anyone going on a ventilator would make it. Luckily, he never entered those odds and has been slowly recovering with the help of his wife, Abigail.
